At HappyCrabby, every shell goes through an extensive preparation and quality-control process before it ever reaches your hermit crab.

1. Accurate Sizing

We provide detailed instructions to help customers properly measure their hermit crabs. Using those measurements, customers select the appropriate shell size range when placing their order.

2. Hand Selection & Precision Measurement

Each shell is individually hand-selected and carefully measured to ensure it falls within the size range chosen by the customer.

3. Structural Inspection

Every shell undergoes a thorough visual inspection to check for holes, cracks, or other defects. This step is critical because a shell must be able to retain moisture to help keep a hermit crab's abdomen and gills properly hydrated.

4. Edge Smoothing

We carefully Dremel and hand-file the shell opening to remove any sharp edges. This extra step helps protect delicate eye stalks and reduces the risk of injury.

5. Sterilization & Leak Testing

Each shell is sterilized by boiling it for 10 minutes in Prime-dechlorinated water with marine salt. After sterilization, every shell is water-tested to ensure there are no hidden leaks in the abdomen area.

6. Individual Packaging & Verification

Once approved, each shell with an opening size of 1" and above is individually wrapped to maintain cleanliness and labeled with its exact opening size so customers can easily verify the measurements.

7. Protective Shipping Preparation

The labeled shells are wrapped in packing paper and placed securely in a clear bag to prevent damage during transit. We also include a hermit-crab-safe thank-you treat as a small token of our appreciation.

8. Personalized Packing

Each order is placed in a brown paper bag along with a handwritten thank-you note. The bag is carefully folded, sealed, and packed in a shipping box to ensure it arrives safely.

9. Fast Shipping
