MEASURING:
Please refer to picture in this listing titled “HOW WE MEASURE” to determine the correct size needed …be sure to measure the OPENING of the shell, NOT the overall size of the shell. Shell size is measured across the longest diameter of the shell opening with a ruler. To ensure size accuracy, please measure your existing Hermit Crab’s shell opening using a ruler or tape measure. It’s advisable to offer a variety of shell sizes in your hermit crab’s size range to choose from, so you should consider ordering a couple of different size ranges for them.

QUALITY:
Each shell is hand-picked and quality-inspected to ensure shell integrity. Shells that have open holes in the abdomen section are not suitable. Hermit crabs need shells that are capable of holding a bit of water in the base to help keep 00the crabs’ gills moist. We inspect each shell in your order, so you can rest-assured you get “quality over quantity” so you are not wasting your time and money.

SHELL TYPES:
We have many different shells in stock, and no two are identical. You may not get the exact shells in the picture, the shell styles you will receive will be based on availability in your size selection, however, rest assured you will receive hand-picked and quality inspected shells.

STERILIZING THE SHELLS:
Don’t forget to sterilize your shells. After receiving your hermit crab shells, we recommend boiling them in primed (de-chlorinated) water with aquarium marine salt (optional) for 5 minutes. NEVER use bleach, as it is poisonous to hermit crabs. After boiling the hermit crab shells, allow them time to cool down before offering them to your hermit crabs. It’s a good idea to sterilize empty shells in your tank every few months.
